Dear Mr. Golden,

As a member of the Class of ’80, I read with great disappointment your most recent letter regarding the university’s plans to fundamentally redefine the purpose and existence of Colgate’s fraternities and sororities. Though I am not fully aware of the events that have led to this decision, I cannot help but feel that it is excessive. First came the Patriot Act and now the Colgate Act, neither in violation of anyone’s constitutional rights and both done for our greater good; a sad day first for our country and now a sad day for Colgate, its students and alumni.

Sincerely,

Richard Swanson
Class of ‘80
